Fewer Pupils in Xavier

Until recently, the Xavier School in Greenhills, run by Jesuits, selected only pupils who met high standards and passed a grueling test. (definitely high standards... definitely grueling tests but measurable naman... NO failing grades in ANY subject and in ANY quarter) Still, rich and powerful Chinese-Filipinos were able to enroll their kids. (yes rich, kasi mataas talaga ang tuition compared sa iba... but meron naman Grant-In-Aid program --na mas pinalawak pa ngayon-- to accommodate poor but deserving boys... no denying, yung ibang students talaga influential and powerful yung parents nila... eh pinanganak silang yun yung mga tatay at nanay nila, masisisi nyo ba sila?!?!!? halerrrr?!?!?)

Parents are asked to donate big sums. (they are NOT asked to do that... eh di sana buong school pati flooring may silver or gold name plates na nakakabit... kasi lahat ng donors may name plate sa wall ng donors eh.... eh di sana hindi lang wall of donors yun kundi building of donors... or city of donors or world of donors... Other kids get in through recommendations of influential poeple, meaning big donors. (Other kids get in because they are fitted and measured to get in the school... some even after rigorous and many interviews... may contract-signing pa nga for probationary status...)

Infuence is the name of the game, if the child's IQ does not meet the expectations of Xavier. (influence is not the name of the game... neither is it the working policy... mamatay na ang umaaasa sa palakasan... na pati sariling kaluluwa utang na sa ibang tao... tsk tsk tsk... selling your soul to the Dark Lord? hmmm... for us, no way, jose!)

There has been a remarkable change from the time the economy started sinking. In the first place, the school raised the tuition and other fees to P91,912.10 for the first grader. (Yup, two consecutive years na nag-increase ng tuition ang school... 5% parehong year... But I don't think na P91K+ yung grade one... siguro kapag sinama mo yung books... yung marami at nag-uumapaw nilang school supplies na sosyal... yung isang dosenang uniforms... yung limang P.E. uniforms... hmmm... malamang nga... aabot yan ng ganon... baka nga P100K pa eh.... nyahahaha!Ü)

Today, enrollment requirements have been relaxed.

Yet enrollment is much smaller for the coming school year. Why?

Because of excessive fees that was never considered by the Chinese-Filipino before.

Many of them enrolled their kids in other Chinese-language schools where fees are lower.

This is one little confirmation of how bad times have become. And Malacañang tells us to work harder. The Chinese-Filipinos are the hardest working people. But they, too, can feel the pinch.

Nuthin' left to do but just dramatically flip my hair... bat my snufflelafagus-like eyelashes... flash my blinding smile... jolt my arm up toward the sky and shout.... ERNAG!!!! may the force be with me! hahaha!Ü
